Brief History Of Ahmadu Bello University
Ahmadu Bello University zaria (ABU) previously known as the University of northern Nigeria is one of the most prestigious universities in Nigeria. It was founded in October 1962.
At first, the university began as the University of northern Nigeria, before it was given the name after the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello, the first premier of Northern Nigeria.
The institute is accorded the status of a full-fledged university by the National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria, She runs a wide variety of undergraduate, post-graduate and diploma programmes, including affiliate degrees, vocational programmes and remedial courses.
The university is said to be one of the largest Federal university in the sub Saharan region of Africa, The institute boost of three (3) campuses:
- Samaru (main)
- Kongo in Zaria.
- Funtua (pre-degree school)

Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) is no doubt one of the largest teaching hospitals in the sub-Saharan region Africa and a major location for medical treatment and training, it’s an important medical specialties health service provider in northern Nigeria precisely.
ABUTH is located around Shika along Zaria-Sokoto road in Zaria, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The hospital center was established in 1968 under the name ‘the Institute of Health’ in accordance with statutes 15 of the university law (amendment act schedule 16) by the former northern Nigeria government.

Application Form
All candidates are to purchase the application forms for their Postgraduate programs on the school admission portal online. The sum of N10,000 is to be paid for the application. Note that the fees paid on the admission portal are non refundable.
First create an account, fill in a form with your complete name and a valid email correctly.
Provide all relevant personal and social information before you submit it online (https://spgs.abu.edu.ng/forms). You can go ahead and print out the form when you are done. Also, make sure all the data are correct.

Acceptance Fee and Payment
Applicants offered provisional admission into their respective Postgraduate programmes are to proceed to the payment of school fees and Acceptance fees (non-refundable). Before an applicant can be cleared, He/she must pay a non-refundable acceptance fee of N50,000 for both Sciences and School of Management Sciences.

Postgraduate Entrance Exam of ABU
To secure admission into any of the Postgraduate programmes of your choice offered at ABU, you are to pass the entrance exam conducted within the school, but some programmes candidates don’t need to bother about entrance examination but on the basis of requirements approved by the school management body.

Ahmadu Bello University Cut Off Mark
As at the time of writing this article, Ahmadu Bello university cut off marks is 180 and 200+ for medical courses. Candidates must make the ABU their first choice before sitting for the UTME exam.
In order to secure admission in ABU, then candidates must pay attention to the credit requirements, all candidates that applied must have at least 5 Credit passes of not more than two sittings and the relevant O’Level subjects – must include English language and Mathematics.

Ahmadu Bello University School Fees
Below are the break down of school fees paid at the prestigious institution (ABU)
School Fees For Fresh Students
These are students that just got admitted into the University. The fees for each of the fresh students slightly differ depending on the course a student admitted for.
The total amount for New Science, social science, management Sciences and Art students is about N50,400. The same goes for for non-science fresh students.
School Fees For Returning Students
As stated about the school fees paid through the school portal varies depending on the Faculty and Level category the student falls.
Examination Fees – Both Science students and non-science students pay the sum of N5,000.
Labouratory Fees – Cost is N3,000 for science students. It is N1,000 for non-science students.
Faculty Fee – All candidates pay N6,000.
Sport Fee – N1,000 for all admitted students.
Registration fees: It’s N1,500 for both science and non science students. And other fees.
The total amount to be paid for science students is between N33,400 – 35,400 depending on the level. For the commercial/management students, the total amount to be paid as fees is about N45,50.
Note that the fees mentioned above is not speaking in general for all returning students for both science and arts, for fees to be paid may be higher or lower depending on the level and course.
