Ahmadu Bello University Zaria: Hostel Residency Rules And Regulations

According to the Ahmadu Bello University academic calender for this session, students are set to return to school on the 3rd of January 2023, the school has opened the residence hall for all the Students residing within the school premises (hostels) as from 1st January 2023.

Before arriving the school premises, there are some certain regulations governing the stay of every student within the hostels. Students can also find this general residency regulations on the students’ Handbook and should be strictly observed. This regulations can be found below;

  1. Bed-space is allocated to cover only the period of Senate approved calendar. As such no student under any guise will be allowed to stay a day longer in the halls of residence.

  2. The Dean of Student Affairs reserves the right to allocate, revoke and swap bed space(s) for good cause.

  3. At the end of each academic session, students must evacuate all their belongings and submit all room key(s) to the Hall Administrator. The Division shall not be responsible for the safety of item(s) left behind.

  4. Sale argivingout of bed space(s) or unauthorized swapping of room(s) is strictly prohibited. The penalty for any default is revocation of bed space(s) and forfeiture of accommodation fee by the buyer and one semester rustication for the seller. Second time defaulters shall be rusticated for one session.

  5. Visitors are not allowed to stay in the halls beyond 9:00pm. Female students are not allowed entry into male halls.

  6. Female students shall not for whatever reason, reside in male halls and vice versa. The penalty for this will be loss of bed space for the student and accomplice(s) and rustication for one semester for both.

  7. Male students shall not, for whatever reasons enter female students’ halls of residence and vice versa unless otherwise authorised by the Dean of Student Affairs. The penalty for defaulter is rustication for one semester and counselling for the student.

  8. Abortion in the Hall of residence is strictly prohibited. The penalty is forfeiture of bed space.

  9. Undergraduate students are not allowed to reside in postgraduate halls/blocks. The penalty for this is loss of bed space for the defaulter and rustication for one semester for the accomplice.

  10. Use of LPG stove is allowed only in designated areas but should not be more than 3kg cylinder. An undertaking form must be signed by students that wish to use the LPG stove in the Halls of residence.

  11. Use of any kind of electrical appliances for cooking or boiling of water is strictly prohibited. The penalty for default is seizure of the appliances up to a maximum of two (2) times from a student. Thereafter the bed space shall be revoked.

  12. Cooking in rooms is strictly prohibited. Penalty for default is forfeiture of cooking appliances up to a maximum of three times.

  13. The use of any electrical appliance for warming or heating is prohibited. Penalty for default is forfeiture of electric appliance up to a maximum of three times, thereafter loss of bed space.

  14. Digiosal of leftover food in the sink, laundry, bathrooms or toilets is strictly prohibited. The penalty for default is a letter of warning to be served on the student up to a maximum of two (2) times. Thereafter be or she shall forfelt his/her bed space.

  15. Waste or any form of rubbish must not be disposed through the window(s), over balustrade(s) or littered in front of rooms. All wastes and/or rubbish should be neatly disposed in dustbins provided. The penalty for default is a letter of warning to be served on the student up to maximum of two (2) times. Thereafter the student shall forfeit his/her bed space.

  16. Toilets must be used properly. As such only tissue paper and water should be used. The penalty for default is a letter of warning to be served to the student up to a maximum of two (2) times. Thereafter any student will forfeit his/her bed space.

  17. Washing in whatever form should be done at designated areas. In addition, walls and floors of the halls should not be smeared. All form of graffiti is also prohibited. The penalty for default is a letter of warning to be served to the student up to a maximum of two (2) times. Thereafter, the student shall forfeit his/her
    bed space.

  18. The engagement of person(s) for odd jobs like laundry and washing of plates in halls of residence is prohibited. Students shall be warned up to maximum of two (2) times. Thereafter the student shall forfeit his/her bed space.

  19. Bathing outside bathrooms, defecating and urinating other than in the urinals/water closets are strictly prohibited. The penalty for default is forfeiture of bed space.

  20. Unauthorised commercial activities such as hawking, barbing, hair dressing, baking and business centre activities such as photocopying, GSM call centres, word processing, video and audio recording etc are strictly prohibited. The penalty for default is loss of bed space for the entire occupants of the room; if they fail to report and confiscation of such items.

  21. Religious activities within halls of residence such as meetings and preaching are prohibited. Defaulters shall be made to appear before the Advisory Committee on Students Discipline.

  22. Possession, use and sale of dangerous and illicit drugs are strictly prohibited. The penalty shall be rustication for one or two semesters as the case may be

  1. Students will be surcharged for any damage to University property.

  2. Spouses are not allowed entry into halls of residence. Nursing mothers are not allowed to reside. Penalty for default is forfeiture of bed space.

  3. Students should not post any bill(s) on buildings and other facilities on campus. Originators of such bills shall be held responsible for damaging or smearing University buildings and other facilities. All bills should be posted on notice boards only. Defaulters shall be surcharged for any damage to the University facilities.

  4. Tempering with University facilities including television sets and cable satellite provided in common rooms is strictly prohibited. The penalty for default is forfeiture of bed space(s) and surcharge for damages.

  5. Transmission/broadcast in any form and use of antennae for television, radio, cable, satellite, computer network etc is strictly prohibited. The penalty for default shall be forfeiture of bed space(s) for the entire occupants and confiscation of items erected/installed.

  6. All grievances, complaints and reports must be channelled through the Hall Administrator/Security Officer(s) in the halls of residence. No complaints outside this channel shall be entertained. Student Affairs Division and the University Management shall not entertain complaints, reports and grievances made outside the authorised channels.
