Bayero University, Kano: A Comprehensive Review

Bayero University kano (BUK) is a federal university of higher education, the university was founded in 1975 and is stationed at kano, Kano state.

Before settling for the present names, The institute has being known by other names from its early years Ahmadu Bello College (1960), Abdullahi Bayero College, Bayero University College (1975).

BUK has about 5 functioning campuses: The New campus, Mambayya Campus, Sce Campus, Old campus and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital campus (AKTH).

Over the years of standard education at the university, it has produced notable personalities and reowned bright minds. Below are some of the notable alumni produced by Bayero University:

Zaynab Alkali: A Nigerian author, first female novelist from the Northern part of Nigeria. She obtained her first and second degrees from ABU Zaria and her doctorate degree in English Language from Bayero University kano.

Zuwaira Gambo: is the commissioner of women affairs and poverty development in Borno state. She was the former secretary of defense, she has worked with daily times group as writer and editor and was editor at the Department of Federal University of Technology, Minna. She finished her first Degree in Mass communication at Bayero University, and then proceeded for a second degree in public administration from University of Calabar.

Mohammed Mabdul: Nigerian diplomat, former ambassador to Algeria (2019 – 2022). He studied Arabic and political science at Bayero University Kano. For 3 years he served as the Counsellor in Charge of Consular/Visa in Algier embassy.

Ahmad Sani Yerima: was the former governor, Zamfara State (1999 – 2007), became the Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that same year till 2019, he was also the Senator for Zamfara West and Deputy Minority Leader in the Senate.

Jamilah Tangaza: is a Nigerian journalist and the former head of BBC Hausa.

Moses Ochonu: is a Nigerian historian, author and even a prof in African history in a private research institute (Vanderbilt University).

Bayero University, Kano School Fees

The fees at BUK varies based on department, each department has its own fees to be paid, some less while others high. Below are the fees paid at the university based on real students.

Freshers (New Students)

In the beginning of the new semester there are two types of fresh students which are the DE students and the Post Utme students. The newly admitted students (100 level) at the institute both science, social science and arts pay from N36,500 – N46,500 depending on your department, The newly admitted students (DE) fees ranges from about N39,000 – N47,000 also the fees to be paid is depending on your Course of choice.

Returning

The returning students of the university are the university students from 200 level – 500 level. The fees paid by this category of students are much like the newly admitted students. The fees for the returning students ranges from N35,500 – N41,500, this fees also is paid based on department.

Foreign Students (Non-Nigerians)

Foreign Students are students that are not Nigerians, in general their fees are higher and it ranges from N100,000 – N600,000 respectively.

Note that all payments are to be made using Remita e-Payments and e-Collection platform and any fees paid are not refundable. So it’s advised that before making payments read the instructions carefully.

The fees for Hostel in BUK is quite different from others and will be shown below;

Bedspace with Mattress – N20,090 only.

Bedspace without mattress – N12,090 only.

Bayero University, Kano Post UTME 2022

The Post UTME screening registration for the 2022/2023 academic sessions Payment for starts from Monday, 14tg November 2022 and ends Saturday, 31st December 2022.

For candidates who passed their jamb they are to fill the post utme form, and must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Its important for the Candidates to have chosen Bayero University as their first choice. Any Candidates yet to do so are advised to apply for change of institute and choose this institution as their first choice and wait for the change to be effected on the JAMB platform.
  • Prospective candidates must have scored a minimum of 180 in UTME.
  • Must have at least 5 credits (in English Language and Mathematics) in O’ Level conducted by WAEC or NECO and other relevant subjects in the candidate’s field of study and must/should have been obtained in not more than two sittings.

Bayero University, Kano Cut Off Mark 2022

The general cut off mark at Bayero University for the 2022/2023 academic session is 180 (minimum). In The School’s recent development, the institute has increased cut off marks for some courses which are:

Faculties of Clinical Sciences and Dentistry 240 and above.

Pharmaceutical Sciences 230 and above. 

Faculties of Allied Health Sciences and Law cutoff points from 200 and above.

You can get any course in any of the departments below with 180 and above.
